Miscellaneous NAICS Code: 541 -- Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services/541712 -- Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences (except Biotechnology) The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. ("AURA"), on behalf of Gemini Observatory, announces the opportunity for qualified organizations or persons to provide a continuous wave (CW) mode-locked 50 Watt laser at the Gemini South facility to replace the existing laser with a more robust alternative Laser (the subject of this RFQ, hereafter called the "Laser") providing a photon return equivalent to or greater than currently received by its 5 laser guide star Multi-Conjugate Adaptive Optics system, GeMS. AURA desires that the new Laser utilize as much as possible of the existing Beam Transfer Optics (BTO) and Laser Launch Telescope (LLT) for projecting the Laser onto the sky, enabling Gemini to switch from the current system to the new system with minimal downtime. Organizations and persons interested in learning more about this opportunity should visit http://www.gemini.edu/node/12435 to view the Gemini South: Sodium Laser Guide Star documents.
